Pawn Shop 30-06

Here’s what we are starting with. Bluing is pretty worn, no rear sight, no rear scope base, but the crown looks ok.

They are commonly called “Pawn Shop Mausers” and can very from military surplus to used consumer rifles build on Mauser Actions. Typically they can be had for pretty cheap, $250 to $400 dollars, but the condition varies quite a bit.

I bought a J.C. Higgins Model 50 Chambered in 30-06 back about 2 or 3 years agos with the intent of using the receiver for a target rifle. My interest in a target rifle has waned and I’d rather have a field gun, that I don’t mind beating up as long as it shoots.

Here’s the journey from a pawn shop purchase, to a working field gun. Who know how much work I’ll need to do and what fun mistakes I’ll make!
